Oil&Gas Engineering Contractors should resume hiring soon

November 8, 2009

From the dizzy high oil prices of July 2008 ($147 per bbl) to the super low prices in Feb 2009 ($35 per bbl), the oil industry fell from a cliff, and so did the jobs in the industry. The oil&gas engineering industry in UK suffered the most since projects dried up suddenly, hitting a low point in/around Mar 2009. This dismal picture has improved a bit now, and we expect the UK engineering contractors to start hiring by Q3-2009 and get back to normalcy by Q1-2010.
What do you think? Any opinions welcome?

Agency Workers Directive and Ltd company contractors

November 8, 2009

How will Agency Workers Directive impact Ltd Company Contractors?

The consultation for implementation of the Agency Workers Directive (AWD) in the UK began in Feb 2009 to bring UK on par with the EU norms. The white paper on the AWD is available on

http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file51197.pdf
.

While the implementation of the AWD in the UK has been delayed until 2011, it is certainly going to have a major impact on the way business is done in the UK, especially in the service, sales, manufacturing and construction industries where hiring of Temporary workers is commonplace.

The point for discussion is whether the AWD is going to adversely affect the way (like IR35) Ltd company contractors provide their services to Companies, including those in the oil&gas/petroleum sector? What do you think? Comments welcome!
